STAPLEFORD TWINNING ASSOCIATION,
Summary of 2012 by our Chair – Jackie Bow
The A.G.M on the 20th November reminded us that another year of Twinning activities has passed. This included the visit of the French families from Villedômer to Stapleford during the weekend of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations in June. Coming from a republican country our guests were enthralled and delighted by all things royal! They much enjoyed the Jubilee activities in the marquee on the rec., and the trip in the pouring rain to Sandringham held everyone’s attention. One French visitor could identify all the members of the Royal Family going back to Queen Victoria!
The AGM was attended by about 20 people who heard from the Chair of the very successful, but demanding, youth exchange in August. 11 youngsters took part in an action packed 8 days, both here and in France, and even improved their French on the way!
Other items at the AGM, included the future of the Villedômer Garden. The committee will liaise with the Parish Council to decide how best to manage and use this space. The possibility that the Slaughter House adjacent to the garden could house Twinning memorabilia was also discussed.
Robert Heap announced his retirement as Treasurer after 7 years of efficient committed management of the finances, membership and the 100 club.
Tony Hore is now the Treasurer. Jackie Bow continues as chairman, and Louise Graham as secretary. Anand Pillai is the new membership secretary. We welcomed Colin Jefferson and Patrick Thouroude onto the committee.
The Twinning Association members are looking forward to the family visit to Villedômer from 24th – 27th May 2013.
