2014: Summary

Summary of 2014 by our Chair – Jackie Bow

Every year seems to be a busy year for Twinning.

Thanks to Jim Foreman we were able to hold a very successful winetasting. We have had 2 film evenings again this year; we watched Manon des Sources the sequel to Jean de Florette, based on the novel by Marcel Pagnol, and in October we watched the delightful comedy based on Goscinny and Sempé’s Le Petit Nicolas. We enjoyed a convivial cold supper during the interval.

We were very pleased to welcome Francine Rouanet-Démocrate who gave a most interesting and inspiring talk about the Loire. This evening was very well attended and very well received.

This year it was our turn to entertain our visitors from Villedômer for the Twinning Weekend, so there was plenty of work for the Stapleford Commttee. The hard work paid off with a successful trip to Burghley House and dinner at the Red Lion, Grantchester, which our visitors enjoyed very much.

In July, Twinners contributed to the Tour de Stapleford weekend by holding a cake stall, and also organizing the wine and cheese at the evening event where we were entertained by Shakey Breaks the Ice. Both were very successful events.

The Youth Exchange took place in August.

Earlier this month, some of the committee attended the Shelford Feast disbursement Evening and were delighted to receive a generous donation towards the Youth Visit.

It is with great sadness that we record here the death earlier this year of Robert Heap,   a long-standing and loyal member of the Association and recently our Treasurer, and he is greatly missed.  The death of Guy Jacot is also recorded here. He was an enthusiastic Twinner.

Thoughts are being given to the Twinning Weekend which will take place 22-25 May 2015. This will be our 36th year of Twinning, when it will be our turn to visit France.
